Woman Get Behind

Millions of women, for generations, in a vast number of countries right round the world, have been forced into subservient roles by men. In many places women remain veiled, with no freedom of choice, no voice and no vote.
Several years before the commencement of the Afghan conflict, Barbara Walters of 20/20, wrote a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan. She noticed that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.
When she recently returned to Kabul she noticed that women still walking behind their husbands. Walters wondered if the women were happy to adhere to the old customs. She stopped a woman and asked her, ‘Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?”
The woman said without hesitation, “Land mines.”
Women in New Guinea also walk behind their men, but for quite a different reason. It is well known that crocodiles take the last person in the line.
However, if you are a woman in Japan, you don’t even come into the picture at all, in many men’s minds, except as a stuffed dummy.
45 year-old engineer, Ta-Bo has taken the idea of women being subservient to men to a new level. He has a collection of nearly 100 hundred life-like silicone dolls. Ta-Bo has spent over $170,000 on his collection, on what many call ‘Dutch Wives’. One doll can cost up to as much as $6000.
Ta-Bo says “A human girl can cheat on you, or betray you sometimes, but these dolls never do those things. They belong to me one-hundred percent.”
Traditional Nyotaimori, or ‘female body presentation’, also puts women into a subservient role. Nyotaimori is eating sushi off a woman’s naked body. An ancient custom that has long been the prerogative of the Japanese elite.
Now an English duo have introduced Nyotaimori into London. For the cost of around $400 you can have unlimited alcohol, which includes champagne on arrival, followed by a 10 course authentic sushi dinner, eaten off the naked body of a female model.
Diners arrive at various clandestine locations around London, which can range from a grand mansion, to an unoccupied warehouse. This ensures privacy and exclusivity. The numbers of guests are limited to between 12 – 24 persons, with only one sitting a month scheduled until March 2010.
Nyotaimori has an underground following in the United States, with celebrities such as Brad Pitt and George Clooney taking part.
