Water And Your Health

Experts say that drinking lots of water is important for your well-being and your health, from brain power to cancer. Perhaps it is the true elixir of life?
Based on more than twenty years of clinical and scientific research into the role of health benefit of water for the body, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj MD, a pioneering physician and acclaimed author, says water can relieve a stunning range of medical conditions. “Simply adjusting your fluid and salt intakes can help you treat and prevent dozens of diseases, avoid costly prescriptions drugs and enjoy vibrant new health.”
Painful joints can be a signal of water shortage. Some experts say that lower back pain is also a sign of water shortage in the spinal column and discs. Hydration is essential to help prevent clogging of arteries in the heart and brain and in treating hypertension.
The brain, which is 85% water, cannot tolerate even 1% loss of water. Depression, sleep disorders, lack of energy, as well as attention deficit can all be lessened by drinking sufficient water.
When excess toxins are allowed to build up in the blood stream the body becomes like a toxic waste site. This prevents proper oxygenation of the cells and creates a break down in the function of those cells. The end result of this is cancer. Water then is an aid against breast, colon and bladder cancer, besides improving your immune system.
Water also plays a key role in losing weight, as it assists in the breakdown of proteins and carbohydrates and helps the body get rid of the ‘bad fat’.
- Water helps regulate the body temperature
- Transports nutrients and oxygen into the cells
- Moistens the air in the lungs
- Helps with metabolism
- Protects vital organs
- Detoxifies
- Protects and moisturizes joints
- Helps organs absorb nutrients better
- Muscles consist of 75% water
- Blood consists of 83% water
- Bones consist of 22% water
Water is in fact the main component of the human body.
So how much water should you drink in a day? Most experts agree that at least 8 glasses of non caffeinated liquid, a day are sufficient to keep the body well tuned. That of course, does not include such liquids as coffee or caffeinated tea. If you can’t handle plain water, add a few drops of lemon juice which adds enormous health benefits.
Remember, the body only registers you are thirsty after the fact.
