Tourism Bounces Back

If there is a good business to invest in right now it is the field of tourism and in particular the Asia-Pacific region. “Tourism is one of the most dynamic economic sectors and a key driver in creating much needed growth and employment,” UNWTO’s (United Nations World Travel Organization) secretary-general Taleb Rifai said at a recent Summit.

Gaining an extra 10 million international arrivals over pre-crisis 2008 figures, the Asia Pacific region has been recognized for its strong growth.

“The region was caught quite early and suddenly by the economic crisis but was also the first to show signs of recovery, posting an impressive 14 per cent growth in international arrivals through August 2010.”

UNWTO reported. “The growth is evidence of the resilient nature of the industry which has shown recovery again and again even after incidents such as the September 11 attacks in 2001 and the 2003 SARS outbreak.”

“Tourism has been seriously impacted by the global crisis, but less than other export sectors and is currently rebounding faster and more robustly,” said Rifai.

Vanuatu, in the South Pacific, was voted the Happiest Country on Earth in 2006 and again in 2010 it was voted as one of the happiest countries to visit. Vanuatu was also voted no 6 in the top countries to visit, by Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel 2011.

Vanuatu gained a very healthy 6% growth in GDP in 2009, in spite of the global economical downturn. Along with the new branding program, Vanuatu is looking for a sharp leap ahead in figures in 2011. While much of Vanuatu is still untouched and far from the heavy world of commercialism, it is a must visit place for the savvy investor.
