Three Sister Rogue Waves Endangers Shipping

Being hit by a massive wave, while at sea, is not just a thing of horror movies. It is a real life drama that can happen totally out of the blue.

Three rogue waves, known by sailors as the ‘Three Sisters’, slammed into a cruise ship, during stormy weather and 70 knot winds, off the coast of Spain. The ship, the 41,000-tonne Louis Majesty, was carrying almost 2,000 people. The rogue waves left two people dead and six injured, Spain’s maritime rescue service reported.

The freak wave, measuring 8 – 10 metres in height, smashed windows in the Royal Fireworks Lounge, located forward on deck 5, of the Maltese-flagged Greek Cypriot-owned cruise ship.

Police in Greece reported a German and Italian passenger were killed from flying shards of glass and furniture, as the windows broke. One woman was in a serious condition with both legs broken and 14 others injured.

The ship was forced to change course after the strike, to evacuate the dead and injured and return to Barcelona. The cruise was terminated, while the ship underwent repairs.

    Hi,
Your story is one of the hypotheses. Rogue wave ? or simply a big wave ?
What’s about the breaking strength of windows from this Royal Fireworks Lounge level 5 ? the same accident has already occured in 25/10/2004 in the same salon ! please read here :

We will wait more deads to do something for the passenger’security.
    Best regards.
A passenger of this tragic cruise.
