September 12th 2010 will see a distinguished group visit the historic site at Santo, when 10 senior Apostles, from around the world, will again declare a prophetic proclamation over Vanuatu.
70 Apostles, well known senior global church leaders, will visit Vanuatu, voted the Happiest Country on Earth in 2006 and again in 2010, for a Global Apostolic Summit on the 14th-16th September.
These 70 leaders represent nations as diverse as Australia, Central America, United States, Ghana, African American, Central America (Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico), Australian Aboriginal & Islanders, New Zealand, India and Russia.
On the 14th May 1606, Captain Pedro Fernadex de Quiros, the Portuguese navigator, named the land he was standing on as the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit.
He had landed on the large island of what was then known as the New Hebrides, (Vanuatu). He thought he had discovered the southern continent he was searching for, (Australia). He named it La Australia del Espiritu Santo. His intention was to establish a colony, to be called Nova Jerusalem.
He attempted to found a new Order of Chivalry, the Knights of the Holy Ghost, designed to protect the new colony. He eventually abandoned his idea, due to the hostility of the Ni-Vanuatu people and disagreements among his own crew.
The island Quiros landed on, retained the name Espiritu Santo and is the largest island of the 80 tropical island archipelago, Vanuatu, located in the North West corner of the South Pacific.
In May 2006, hundreds of people gathered to commemorate the declaration, made 400 years before. The president of Vanuatu, Kalkot Mataskelekele, spoke of repentance, reconciliation, renewal and forgiveness.
The Matantas Chief was present and performed a gift ceremony to commemorate the occasion. Both Spanish and European representatives were delighted to receive these gifts, as a sign of reconciliation and cleansing of the land.
A bust of Pedro Fernandez de Quiros now marks the spot.
The Apostles strongly believe that Vanuatu will lead a Christian revival that will impact both Australia and other Pacific Island Nations.
The Global Apostolic Network meet together every year for a conference, where they seek inspiration for what God is saying to the nations. This is the first time the group has felt led to meet in a Developing Nation.
Public meetings will be held at the Seafront Stage on the 14th, 15th and 16th September, at 6.30 p.m. This will be the time when the local Ni-Vanuatu people will be able to meet the Apostles and hear what they have to say concerning Vanuatu, a nation that is rapidly rising on the global stage, having just successfully hosted the Pacific Islands Forum.
Vanuatu has just celebrated its 30th year of independence, a year nominated in biblical terms as ‘Maturity’.
