Pregnant With Wrong Baby

When Carolyn Savage, 40, booked in for an IVF, she had no idea that a responsible infertility clinic, could possibly implant the wrong embryo.
Carolyn, from Ohio, gave birth to a full-term healthy baby boy, (who was not her baby) and handed him over to the biological parents, Paul and Shannon Morell, of Detroit.
In February, a fertility clinic transferred the embryo of Paul and Shannon Morell to Carolyn Savage by mistake. After ten days, the Savages received a call from the clinic explaining the error and informing them that Carolyn was pregnant with someone else’s child. The Morells of Troy, Michigan, learned of the clinic’s error the following day.
The Savages had experienced great difficulty in conceiving and carrying a child, so to hear that Carolyn was finally pregnant was great news, until “They delivered the worst news of our life,” said Sean Savage.
The two families did not know each other. When Shannon Morell learned of the mistake, she feared Carolyn might choose to abort the baby rather than carry it full-term. This would have ended the chance of the Morells giving their 2-year-old twin girls a sibling.
Carolyn and her husband Sean said they never once considered terminating the pregnancy, or even trying to fight for custody. A few days passed, however, before the Morells learned the Savages would hand over the baby without hesitation.
“This was someone else’s child,” said Carolyn Savage “We didn’t know who it was. We didn’t know if they didn’t have children, or if this was their last chance for a child.”
“It’s been a long, difficult journey, and we’re thrilled that our family is now complete,” the Morells said. “We will be eternally grateful for his guardian angel, Carolyn Savage, and the support of the entire Savage family.”
The Savages have hired attorneys who say they are working to make sure the infertility clinic accepts full responsibility.
