Kidnapping a baby is no longer a case of picking up a new-born from a pram, or stealing a child from a hospital. It has taken on a much more macabre aspect.
Thirty-five year-old Corey was arrested, in Worcester, Massachusetts, after claiming she had given birth to a baby girl. Instead, Corey had cut the 8 month term-baby from the womb of 23 year old Darlene Haynes on July 23rd. Ex boyfriend Dion was also arrested and later released. Haynes had once been a neighbour of Corey and Dion.
Corey had convinced Dion she was pregnant, when Dion tried to break up with her last August. Nine months afterwards, Corey said she had a 20 minute labour and just five hours later returned home with a baby girl.
This is not the first baby to be cut from a mother’s womb.
June 2009 in Orgeon, 27 year old Korena Elain Roberts was arrested for having killed and cut Heather Snively’s baby from the womb, after having told her family she was pregnant. The legal system is trying to ascertain if the baby breathed or not, after leaving the womb. This will decide whether or not Roberts is charged with the child’s murder.
In 2008 a baby was cut from 18 year old Kia Johnson’s womb after she was kidnapped and bound with duct tape. Johnson’s body was found in Columbia Park. Kennewick. Forty-one year-old Andrea Curry-Demis is being held in a mental hospital, awaiting a judge’s ruling on her competency to stand trial.
In July 2008 twenty-seven year-old Araceli Camacho Gomez of Pasco, Kennewick, Washington, had her hands and feet bound with yarn. She was stabbed multiple times in the chest, before dying. Her nearly full-term baby was cut from her womb, by a 23 year old woman, Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong, who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
In 2006 a twenty-six year-old woman was arrested for killing her cousin and cutting her child from the womb. The body of the cousin was found behind a home in East St. Louis. The murdered woman’s other children, aged 7, 3 and 2 years old were found in the same building drowned, only days after the seven month old fetus was cut from the womb.
In 2004 thirty-six year old Lisa Montgomery, of Kansas, lied to her husband about giving birth to a baby girl. Montgomery entered the home of 21 year old Bobby Stinnett, on the pretense of buying a dog. After strangling Stinnett, Montgomery cut the premature baby from Stinnett’s womb, while Stinnett was still alive. Stinnett was a Rat Terrier Breed Inspector and a licensed judge in the terrier community.
