Kate Middleton Sixth Queen Catherine

Queen Catherine VI will be the royal name of Kate, Or Catherine Elizabeth, when her soon-to-be-husband Prince William of Wales, ascends the English throne.
The first Queen to share her name was Catherine of Valois, who married Henry V at Troyes Cathedral in 1420. She was Queen consort for just two years before her husband died, leaving her baby son Henry VI on the throne at the age of nine months.
It seems Catherine was a favourite name of Hennry VIII, who married three of the Catherine’s.
Catherine of Aragon became Henry VIII’s first wife in 1509. After a 24-year marriage cursed by the stillbirths and early deaths of several sons, Henry was so desperate to have the marriage annulled that when the Pope refused to give his consent he broke away from Rome and founded the Church of England.
Catherine Howard was beheaded in 1542, after two years of marriage to Henry VIII, on the grounds of adultery.
She was succeeded by Catherine Parr, who married Henry in 1543, at the age of 30, remained Queen until his death in 1547.
Catherine of Braganza, who married Charles II in 1662, was both Portuguese and a Catholic, making her instantly unpopular with the British public. She failed to produce any surviving offspring. She also had to suffer the humiliation of her husband fathering numerous illegitimate children by his many mistresses.
Typically royal brides are in their teens, making Catherine to be considered ancient as Queen-in-waiting. Princess Diana was just 20 when she married Kate’s future father-in-law.
The youngest royal bride was Isabella of Valois, when she married Richard II at just six years old, in 1396.
Kate Middleton aspires to design a range of clothing. Perhaps it will be called the Queen Catherine, Princess of Wales, or Duchess of Clarence range? Or would that be ‘Royal Rags’?
If Prince Charles marries while his father and grandmother are still alive (which everyone hopes will happen) then Kate’s legal title will be “HRH Princess of Wales”. It is rumoured that Charles may be given the title the Duke of Clarence. Then his wife would be Duchess of Clarence.
The minute his grandmother dies Charles will become the Duke of Gloucestor and the Duke of Rothesy, and a number of lesser titles. His wife will become the Duchess of Gloucestor but since it is a temporary title she may opt to continue with her current title. Once William goes through the ceremony and becomes the Prince of Wales, Kate would become the Princess of Wales. Kate may well be heading for a king-size identity crisis.

[...] Catherine Elizabeth, or commonly known as Kate Middleton, will one day be Queen Catherine VI when her soon-to-be-husband Prince William of Wales, ascends the English throne. Read about the other Catherines… [...]

When his mother the queen dies, the present prince of Wales is due to succeed her as sovereign; Prince William will be next in line after his father. On Charles’ accession to the throne, William will automatically become the duke of Cornwall, since the dukedom of Cornwall always belongs to the eldest legitimate son of the sovereign. William will also become the duke of Rothesay, the earl of Carrick, and the High Steward of Scotland. As was the case with his father, however, Prince William must be created the prince of Wales and the earl of Chester; he does not receive these titles automatically.
In the United Kingdom, a wife always has the right to use her husband’s titles. It was decided, however, that, because of the association in the public mind of the late Diana Princess of Wales with that title, that the prince’s present wife should be referred to instead as H.R.H. the duchess of Cornwall.
The present duke of Gloucester is H.R.H. Prince Richard Alexander Walter George (born August 26, 1944), son of His late Royal Highness the Prince Henry (1900 – 1974), duke of Gloucester, KG, KT, KP. The present duke’s mother was born the Lady Alice Montagu-Douglas-Scott (1901-2004), a daughter of the 7th Duke of Buccleuch. The late duke of Gloucester was the third eldest son of King George V of the United Kingdom and his wife Queen Mary; the present duke is thus a first cousin of Her Majesty the present Queen.
The present duke and duchess of Gloucester have three children, Alexander, earl of Ulster (born 1974), the Lady Davina (born 1977), and the Lady Rose (born 1980). Lord and Lady Ulster have two children, and it is expected that, in due time, they and their descendants will succeed to the Gloucester title.
It is doubtful that the duchy of Gloucester will return to the crown in the near future, or that any of the present queen’s descendants will bear that title.
Doesn’t it make you glad you don’t have to worry about all those blue-blood titles and the duties that go with them. Sounds so confusing. Really appreciated your input.
