How To Dramatically Stop A Car Theft

Russell Stuart, 51, of Kent, southeastern England, woke to hear his Peugeot car being revved up on his driveway, in the early hours of the morning, the UK’s The Daily Telegraph reported.
Stuart leapt out of bed and raced outside. Yanking open the passenger door he dumped himself onto the seat beside the would-be car thief. The problem was he had forgotten to put any clothes on.
“I just got out of bed and ran to my car, opened the passenger door and sat down,” said Stuart. When the thief saw Stuart, he flung the door open and made a run for it.
“I said to him, ‘all right mate, where are we going then?’ And he jumped out of the car and legged it. I don’t know what the guy must have thought when a large naked bloke got into the car next to him, but when your car is being stolen you don’t think about it, you just react.”
Stuart then proceeded to drive around the streets in the hope of finding the thief, even though he was still naked. With no success he gave up, in case he got pulled over for indecent exposure.
The question remains, however, what would Stuart have done if he had found the thief? Jumped out and apprehended him and taken him to the local police station? The problem then would have been that the police would have had to deal with two crimes. The alleged attempt at car theft, as well as indecent exposure.
There is no doubt the quick thinking action on Stuarts behalf, saved his car, but there are simple tips on how to stop a car thief, such as:
- don’t leave the vehicle with the motor running
- don’t leave your keys in the car (at petrol stations)
- lock your car and park in well lit areas
- engrave personal ID numbers on car stereos and cell phones
- etch Vehicle Identification Numbers on major parts of your car.
None of these however, would have stopped Stuart’s car from being stolen.
