In some quarters people have claimed that Bill Clinton’s recent visit to North Korea, upstaged his wife, Secretary of State, Hilary Rodham Clinton. This would appear to be far from the truth, as Bill Clinton has gone on to be a quiet achiever, receiving many awards, from Universities, including Tulane University, University of Michigan, University of Hong Kong, Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology and Knox College, to recognition for his humanitarian work.
Many thought that Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, would die a natural death, after serving in office from 1993 – 2001. In spite of all the negative publicity over the Monica Lewinsky affair and other allegations of sexual misconduct, plus surviving an impeachment, Clinton had the highest end of office rating, of 66%, of any president, since World War II.
Since then Cinton has been involved in public speaking and humanitarian work, which covers the treatment of HIV/AIDS, to global warming. Clinton’s presidential library has the largest number of archives of any presidential library. In 2002, Clinton became the first white person to be inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.
In Pristina, Kosovo a five-storey building, the largest building in the province, has been engraved with a picture of the former president. There is also a road named Clinton Boulevard. In Ballybunion, Ireland, there is a larger than life-size statue of Clinton, commemorating the game of golf he played there.
His autobiography sold 400,000 copies. According to the publishers, Knopf Publishing Group at Random House, Clinton’s book set a new world record for single-day non-fiction book sales. It was later released as an audio book. Clinton received $12 million in advance as a writer’s fee. The audio version of his 2007 book, How Each Of Us Can Change The World, was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award, in the category of the Best Spoken Work Album.
Clinton arrived at an agreement through the William J. Clinton Foundation, with major soft drink manufacturers, to stop selling sugared sodas and juice drinks, in public primary and secondary schools within the United States, on May 3, 2005.
Clinton backed his wife, Hilary in her run for the presidency. When she was defeated, Bill backed Barak Obama. In 2009 he was announced as United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti.
